The empty seat problem
Every week, plans fall over for the want of one person — a five-a-side team a player short, a spare gig ticket going to waste, a hike that would have happened if someone had just said yes.
Why this is hard
The person who would have filled that seat almost always exists. They're nearby, they're free, and they'd have loved it. The problem is that nobody has a way to find them in the four hours before kick-off.
Group chats are the wrong tool: you can only reach people you already know, and asking twice feels like nagging. Public forums are the other extreme — you reach strangers, but you have no idea who's going to turn up, or whether they'll turn up at all.
What we built instead
Joinza is a short-lived listing for a specific slot, with the trust signals attached. A host posts what they need, when, and how many. People nearby see it, ask to join, and the host chooses — with each applicant's reliability, reviews and verification visible at the moment of choosing.
Money, where there is any, is held rather than handed over. It only reaches the host once the event actually starts. That turns "pay a stranger up front" into something both sides can live with.
Nothing here is a social network. There's no feed to scroll, no follower count, and no reason to open the app unless something is actually happening.
What we believe
Reliability is the product. Showing up matters more than anything you can put on a profile, so attendance is tracked and it's the number people see first.
Small commitments build trust faster than big ones. One game, one hike, one gig — nobody needs to commit to a community before they know whether they like the people in it.
Safety isn't a settings page. Verification, escrow, blind two-way reviews and reporting are part of the core loop, not an afterthought bolted on later.
Where we operate
Joinza is open to anyone, anywhere. It works best where there are enough people nearby for a last-minute slot to get filled, so we grow neighbourhood by neighbourhood rather than country by country.
