How payments work
Paying for a slot. When a host charges for an opportunity they choose how it’s collected: card through Joinza, where we hold the money in escrow and release it to the host once the event starts — or cash on the day, which we don’t touch and never charge a fee on.
The fee. On card payments Joinza takes 0%. The host absorbs it, so you always pay exactly the price on the listing — no surprise booking fee at checkout. Free opportunities cost nothing either way.
Donations. A free listing can accept donations. There’s no fee on a donation up to NZ$1,000.00; above that, 3% of the donation comes out of the host’s share. Donors pay exactly what they choose, it’s held in escrow like any card payment, and it’s refunded in full if the event doesn’t go ahead or they withdraw.
High-value listings. When a listing’s total — price per person times slots — is NZ$2,500.00 or more, an extra 3% comes out of the host’s share, and the payout is checked by a person before it’s released. The host sees both before publishing; participants still pay the listed price.
Getting your money back. Every paid listing carries one of three refund templates, shown before you pay and enforced automatically. Whatever the template, if the host cancels or the event never starts, you get everything back — the Refund Policy sets out each case with worked examples.
Subscriptions are separate and go straight to Joinza. Cancel any time from your billing page; you keep Plus until the period you’ve paid for ends. We don’t pro-rate part-periods.
